How This Service Works
Companion support may include conversation, games, crafts, walks, errands, appointments, social activities, community outings, shopping, meal preparation, or light household tasks when those activities are authorized in the plan.
Companion services are different from skilled nursing and may also differ from personal care depending on the program. Staff should remain within the tasks authorized for the service and avoid performing clinical procedures outside their role.
The focus is on safety, engagement, community access, emotional support, and helping the individual participate in ordinary life in ways that match personal goals and preferences.

Planning, Documentation, and Coordination
Services should follow the applicable medical order, authorization, person-centered plan, plan of care, or service agreement. Staff document the support provided, communicate significant changes, and remain within the scope of the role for which they are trained and authorized.
